Go easy when it's easy… go hard when it's hard…

Just coming off the weekend competition of Ironman70.3 Chattanooga I realized I have a lot of work to do to get to, and exceed, my prior seasons performance…exciting!
I was fit going into this race, though taking some fatigue with me. The fatigue came from not letting myself relax, recover and be ready to give everything I could have had on race day. Instead, I pushed myself to work harder each day in training, accumulating more fatigue than fitness. This in turn lead to some underperformance during the run on race day.

In the early days of building up to races I fell into the con that society coerces us into the notion that we should always be giving 200%. An interesting concept when there is only 100% available! This pressure in work and other spheres of our being is counterproductive.
It is not every day that requires us to give our all…I am not proposing being lazy or slovenly…quite to the contrary, we need to define our brand and represent that. I am suggesting making sure that we own and manage our energy, both physical and mental, so that we have that extra when it is truly needed and will truly add value.
